For some of us younger people that didn't get to appreciate watching the 1979 team can some people talk about why they were so great. It would be great to hear about the best Palmyra Panther boys basketball team ever. I really wish I would have remembered them, but sorry to say I was only 4.

To talk properly about the 79 team, you must go back to 1978. At the welcome home celebration held in the old gym (remember that?) after the 1978 finals, Marty Smyser and David Bier took the third place trophy and placed it on the free throw line in the north end of the gym. To quote loosely, they said that 'we will be back here next year with the championship trophy'. David Bier, Marty Smyser (senior), Tom Whiston, Tony Whiston ... that was some kind of a season in 78/79. Palmyra flat out rocked Columbia in 79 .... Regards, Squid

Pretty sure the 5th starter was Joey Suter (could be wrong, though). Regards, Squid
